Pistol’s Firing!

Football season is in full swing and there’s much to discuss about Oklahoma State’s recent “Black Thursday” uniforms. The Pokes used the all-black uniforms on September 30 against the Texas A&M Aggies. The unis, produced by Nike, included a black OSU brand on the helmet.

This isn’t the first time the Cowboys whipped out their alternate threads; htye made their debut in front of a nationally-televised audience last season in an ugly Thursday night win against the Colorado Buffaloes (as seen above). Many Cowboy faithful were weary of wearing the black unis again, on account of the poor first half play against the Buffs. History would hold true as the Pokes had a less-than-stellar opening half of play against the Aggies last week, trailing 21-7 at halftime. Dan Bailey wore his traditional all-orange cleats that would end up kicking the winning field goal as time expired, a nice accent to the all-black pants and jerseys.

In other campus news, the Cowboy golf team wrapped up another top finish at the PING/Golfweek Preview at Karsten Creek on September 28. OSU has a unique partnership with PING and Footjoy that supplies them with top of the line apparel and equipment. Junior Peter Uileihn showed off his “Swingin’ Pete” apparel earlier this summer when he won the U.S. Ameteur.

In other OSU golf news, a pair of former Cowboys traded in their traditional orange and black for a more patriotic red, white and blue. Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler represented Stillwater and the rest of the nation last week at the Ryder Cup in Whales.

Back to football, the undefeated Pokes will take their skills on the road this weekend when they travel to Lafayette, LA to battle the Ragin’ Cajuns at Cajun Field.

This is the first road test for the Cowboys, and gametime should be a nice humid 75 degree swampland atmosphere. “The Swamp” has been home of the U-La-La Ragin’ Cajuns for the last 40 years and holds the top two single game attendance records in Sun Belt Conference history. Its nickname is quite literal; “The Swamp” is geographically thirty miles north of the Gulf of Mexico and is three feet BELOW sea level.

Here are some pics of the Cajun’s facilities:

The Cowboys will wear their traditional white jerseys and orange pants away uniform for the game.

As always comments are appreciated. Happy blogging and Go Pokes!

  1. Jared, I love reading your blog. I was encouraged to read this after Prof. Lewis showed us the blog in class. It has a very cool look to it. After reading it, it has a great writing. The style of writing is clear, concise and to the point. You do a great job of combining information about the uniforms and actual sports information. You definitely sound like you know what you’re talking about! And may I add that I absolutely love the black uniforms; they look so clean. I wish they would wear them more often. I plan on continuing to read your blog in these upcoming weeks!
